Our Tacoma Story
At Bleach, our story is woven from the fabric of Tacoma—a city pulsating with energy, culture, and a vibrant sense of community. Owned by John and Julia Crouch, Tacoma natives deeply entrenched in the heartbeat of this city, Bleach is more than just a brand; it's a celebration of everything that makes Tacoma unique.
Founded in 2010 by John Crouch, Spencer Goetz, Steve Goetz, and Eric Wicken, Bleach began as a dream born from the group’s collaboration on the local brand, Imperial Motion (owned and founded by Eric, Steve, and Spencer) and sold by John. They envisioned a retail space that would serve as the home for Imperial Motion and all things Tacoma, skateboard and lifestyle.
The original brick-and-mortar store, nestled in a historic building on Pacific Ave in downtown Tacoma, served as a gathering place where locals and visitors alike could come together to celebrate Tacoma's rich cultural tapestry through the skateboard, art, and clothing it housed. Live events, hosted art exhibitions, product launches, and parties with live music performances, provided various ways to bring the community together. A space was created that reflected the diverse and dynamic spirit of our city, gathering with friends, customers, and family around a common theme: the Bleach Life. Unfortunately, the retail store could not survive the Covid pandemic and its impact on the neighborhood, business, and city, and closed its doors of 2021.
Bleach isn't just a reflection of Tacoma; it's a testament to the vision and passion of its owners. John and Julia bring a wealth of experience to the table, with backgrounds in retail, sports management, and community engagement. Their shared commitment to building meaningful connections and fostering a sense of belonging is at the core of everything we do.
