Built in the Rebuild: The Stars Return and Downtown Tacoma Shows Up

When the Tacoma Stars returned to the ranks of professional indoor soccer and the MASL, it wasn’t just a reboot — it was a rebuild.

John and Julia Crouch were a pivotal part of those early years, helping re-launch the Stars on the main stage and bring energy back into the club’s identity and community presence. Around that same time, Bleach was operating as a downtown Tacoma retail store, and it was the only official Tacoma Stars merchandise location.

If you were around for that era, you remember what it felt like: the club rising, the city rallying, and Tacoma showing up for Tacoma.

The Skyline Graphic: A Tacoma Icon, Designed With Purpose

During those early relaunch years, Grant Curtis was doing design work for Bleach. He was commissioned to create a Tacoma skyline graphic for Stars gear — including jerseys and scarves — and it quickly became a piece of visual identity that fans genuinely connected with.

It wasn’t just decoration. The skyline said something and led with key Tacoma skyline elements, most importantly The Tacoma Dome:

That design became a beloved reminder of the era when the Stars were rebuilding momentum and Tacoma businesses and supporters were helping keep the culture alive.
